Now, this is a style affliction that has plagued me for a number of years. As soon as I walk in to a store I instantly gravitate towards anything (everything) with stripes. The Breton stripe reigns supreme in my wardrobe, becoming a style-safe uniform for everything; from the everyday dash to the supermarket and yoga classes to important client meetings and milling around at events.
And, I’m not alone…. The Breton stripe is a style treasured by greats including Pablo Picasso, Marilyn Monroe and The Beatniks, not forgetting Jean Paul Gaultier, who for him the Breton stripe is an equally important everyday essential, akin to the nose on his face. So with sartorial approval from the style-set, what’s the story with stripes?

Naval Uniform. Chicks stealing menswear is the number one epitome of style. Add to that the Breton wool sweater, born in 1858 was the French Naval uniform for seamen serving in Brittany. Interestingly, traditionally with 21 stripes; each for one of Napoleons victories.
